Why You Need a Care Plan for Your Website? And What’s Included?

You have got a website for your business that you’re proud of.

It has taken months of planning, designing, and actually building it. And it has also cost you a decent amount of money.

Now you have a site that looks the way you want it to and is performing well for your business, and you want to take care of it properly.

But the problem is: any website on the Internet is prone to technical issues, downtime, viruses, or even hacking attempts.

And if you don’t know how to take care of all these, you may put your website at risk.

Because when things go wrong they can cost a lot of money in losing customers, lost revenue, and damage to reputation if your website is down for too long.

You didn’t start a business so you could stay up late updating and securing your website.

What is a care plan?

A website care plan is a set of services that are used to constantly maintain and keep your website operating smoothly, so you don’t have to keep track of all the different aspects of running a website.

These include keeping your site secure, up-to-date, regularly backing up your website files, monitoring for malware or viruses, and making sure it is always safe from malicious hackers who want to take over or worse destroy your data.

Why do you need a care plan?

Before you say, let me tell you: this is not a sales pitch.

The reason we have written this article is not to sell you the care plan, instead explain all the factors involved to manage your website and how to keep it safe and protected to avoid any potential risks that may hurt your website and business as well.

If your website being offline could hurt your business, you need a care plan.

1) You or your team might break something (unknowingly)

Once you receive your website login from your web designer (or us – if we built your site), you may be eager to make some updates and edits on the site by yourself.

Obviously, you can make updates yourself, but sometimes you might make a mistake or accidentally delete something or change the layout that you didn’t want to.

Yes, that happens. But then you go, spend hours trying to fix it, and get back to where things were before.

Here’s the thing – why bother? Your time must be better spent on building and growing your business rather than working out what went wrong with your website and fix the issues you don’t know about.

If you have a care plan in place, your web designer (or the agency you’re signed up with) can fix this for you.

2) Protect it from hackers

The security of your website is crucial. Not to scare you, but more than 30,000 websites are hacked every day as per this report [ link: https://patchstack.com/website-hacking-statistics/ ] (Source: Sophos Security Threat Report).

Sometimes it can get hacked without you even knowing, and this compromises its safety. You may not even be aware of how vulnerable your website is until it’s too late.

And it’s not only your website at risk. You may have the personal information of your customers and potential customers that you can also put at risk if you don’t have security in place.

With a care plan, you can ensure that your website is secured to prevent such losses.

3) Regular backups of your website and files

A backup for your website is a saved copy of the site from a previous date such as last month, last week, yesterday, or even just this morning.

If you don’t have a backup plan for your website, then the worst could happen.

Suppose you’ve made some updates and that has broken few things on the site and it made the site go down. You’re trying to get it back to the earlier version, but as you don’t have backups, you feel frustrated with no options left.

Because of that, your website is down for a few days and your prospects (or leads) are not able to open your website, which may cost you sales and revenue.

If you are not taking regular backups or have no idea how to restore in case something goes wrong, you need a care plan.

But when you have a care plan, regular backups of your website will be stored (usually daily) so it can always be recovered to the version of a particular date, in case something goes wrong.

4) Softwares need to be updated

Your website is built on WordPress or some other platform, which is software. Just like any computer software, it also needs to be updated to add new features, improve performance, fix bugs and new patches.

Even if you don’t make any changes to the text, images on your website, you still need to take care of your website software and keep them updated.

Will all these technical updates, sometimes things may go wrong because of the compatibility issues of software’s new versions, which may even break your website.

When you are on a care plan, these updates are taken care of by your web design agency. They’ll be updated regularly to the latest version, so your site won’t get outdated.

5) Ad-hoc website changes

Apart from the updates, you might need a professional to work on regular website changes like – creating a new page, doing some layout modifications, or adding or updating text and images.

For sure, you can make these changes by yourself, but to save time (to put that extra time into growing your business instead), you can sign up for a care plan where a professional will do that for you. Some care plans include a certain amount of hours per month.

6) Additional support on email or call

At times, you might also have some questions or need some extra guidance on how to upgrade your website to better serve your marketing and business needs.

Some care plan includes email and/or phone support as part of their package. So you always have someone to support you in case you need help.

7) Peace of mind

I know you’re busy, working hard in running your business, and every single day you have several things on your to-do list.

So, why not have someone professional to look after the website – which is the most important online asset of your business.

It’s always nice to know someone is there taking care of your website behind the scenes and it gives you a good night’s sleep.

Are you ready to protect your website?

Now you must be saying – “I’ve already spent thousands on a website. I don’t want to spend more each month.”

Investing in a care plan actually protects your initial investment.

You will need to decide whether you want to invest your precious time into website maintenance or pay for a monthly plan.

Either way, your site could be at risk if you do not take any action soon!
